About Sakinah Kushmir- Harris
I am excited to announce my position as the new Assistant Principal at Bennett Elementary! Having worked with Bennett teachers and administration for the past two years I am aware that I have joined a team that values student growth. Having served as a Middle School Math teacher, Math Coach, STEM Coach, and Math Instructional Support Leader has helped to shape my knowledge about the importance of relationships and structures within a successful team. My educational journey started at NIU where I received my Bachelor’s in General Studies followed by earning my Master’s in Elementary Education at Roosevelt University. When I decided to pursue a path in leadership I earned a Masters of Educational Leadership at Concordia University. While my formal studies were important for providing a theoretical understanding of quality education, my “real world” training enabled me to learn about the various challenges in schools and the perseverance of colleagues and former leaders that made it possible for students’ success. Again, I am excited to have joined Team Bennett and will work tirelessly to ensure our children’s success “at and beyond” Bennett Elementary School!!
