Kindergarten

Ms. Farrow- Tellison

I would like to welcome you to one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her early school career – kindergarten. I hope to make your child’s year a fun and exciting one. My name is Mrs. Tellison, a graduate of Roosevelt University with several years’ experience working with primary-aged students.

I believe that all children can learn. I also believe that providing a high-quality education is essential to helping your son or daughter become college and career ready. I want to encourage your child’s independence and an “I Can Do It” attitude. We will learn about letters and sounds and do lots of reading and writing activities, too. We will also learn about numbers and other math concepts such as sorting, counting, graphing, classifying, patterning, time and money, measurement, and addition and subtraction. Social studies and science are also an important part of my curriculum. In addition, homework will be assigned and designed to be done under the supervision of an adult. Parents should interact with their child while encouraging neatness and accuracy. I have school supplies for the students to keep in the classroom. You can purchase basic supplies to keep at home for homework. A backpack is needed. Please keep a change of clothes in the backpack for “accidents.” I encourage you to write your child’s name on all  of his/her belongings.

All children are expected to be model students – that is, have a respectful and positive behavior towards staff and peers and follow the school and classroom rules.  Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. Please view school as a priority and see to it that your child attends every day except in cases of an illness or emergency.  If your child is going to be absent, please send a note of absence to school the following day. Also, make sure that your child is dressed for success. Your child IS EXPECTED to wear the school uniform EVERY DAY!

I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year, I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, newsletters, quarterly reports, and parent-teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. Please feel free to email me or call the school and leave a message with the school clerk. I will get back to you as soon as I can (773.535.5460/jdfarrow-tellison@cps.edu). I’m looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child. Thank you!
