Welcome Back
My name is Michelle Edwards. With 15 years of experience in teaching Special Education, including 8 years at Bennett Elementary, I bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to my role. I hold a bachelor's in Political Science from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and a Master's in Education with an LBS1 endorsement from Roosevelt University. The joy of seeing my students grow is what motivates me every day.
Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! My name is Mrs. Edwards and I will be your scholar’s 5th or 6th-grade Diverse Learner Teacher this year.
It is my hope that this year will be positive and meaningful. I am looking forward to working with you as a partner in your scholar’s education. In the beginning weeks, we will work on community-building activities, establishing routines and procedures in our classroom. Research shows that this time is well spent as we create an atmosphere of respect, cooperation, and accountability. The end result is a greater gain in academic achievement. We will discuss our responsibilities to ourselves and as members of our class. During this time, I will also assess your scholar in their math, reading, and writing skills through the beginning of the year benchmark and curriculum-based assessments. Students will also be assessed on their IEP goals from the previous benchmark to the current benchmark. The information gathered will help me to tailor the curriculum to fit your child’s needs.
If you have any questions or concerns you can always contact me by leaving a message with the office staff, or by emailing me at mledwards1@cps.edu. I will return your message as soon as possible, which may be at the end of the school day. I look forward to working together with you and your scholar again this year.
